What a Busy Week this has been so far!

What a busy week it has been! At HRchitect we have been spending a lot of time planning for the big HR Technology Expo to be held here in Frisco next Thursday, March 6. HR and technology professionals throughout the southwest will gather to network and participate in the region’s largest HR technology event of the year to be held at the Frisco Convention Center on March 6, 2008. If you are interested in attending this great event, visit www.ihrim-dfw.org for more information and to register.

This past Monday night was another successful Town Hall meeting with one of the larger crowds. I’ll have a recap of some of the highlights in next week’s version of the newsletter.

“Mornings with Matt” is continuing each Wednesday and thank you for everybody who has stopped by “It’s A Grind” at the SW corner of Tollway and Lebanon. These will continue to take place from 7:30-8:30am each Wednesday so feel free to stop by any time to chat about city issues, or anything you would like to talk about.

Wednesday night we attended an event at the Verizon Wireless Club at Pizza Hit Park where FC Dallas unveiled their new uniforms for the upcoming season. It was a fantastic event and we made some new friends.

Tonight, I did concession duty for the Centennial Girls softball team.

Tomorrow is Leap Day so for those of you who were born on Leap Day and enjoy a birthday party every few years – Happy Birthday!

The campaign for Mayor of Frisco is going great and only 60 days until early voting starts so please vote early and ask all your friends and colleagues to do the same.

I hate to cut this short but I have to get working on my weekly newsletter.

As we have been doing in the past few blogs, here are some more Newsletter comments:

“You do a great service to the community with your ever-informative newsletters.  We in the Frisco area truly owe you a debt of gratitude for providing such in-depth information about the community. It serves as a kind of "glue" to bind all of us together.  We are all in your debt and I, for one, am very grateful, indeed, for you and your knowledge and your generosity in sharing it with thousands in your community.” - Donna, February 2008

“Hello Matt and thanks so much for always advertising events for us. We got a great response for the Frisco High School Senior Breakfast and have collected a large amount of items for the Preston Ridge Garage Sale.  I LOVE YOUR NEWSLETTER, thanks so much for putting it together and keeping us all informed.” – Denise, February 2008

 I Love Sundays Like This

Only 65 days until early voting starts on April 28!!!

The NTTA (North Texas Tollway Authority) had a groundbreaking Friday morning for the next section of SH 121 (from Hillcrest going East). We worked really hard to ensure the best deal possible for the City of Frisco and this groundbreaking is an important next step in continued mobility in our area. The event was well attended, despite the extremely cold weather!

After that I headed over to the Westin for the Chamber of Commerce’s quarterly luncheon. We got to hear from a representative from the Governor’s office on the state of the economy and fortunately it is very strong in Texas.

Friday night was the Frisco Thunder uniform unveiling and media event at Coach Joe’s. The Thunder starts their season at home in Frisco on Saturday, March 1. Get your tickets now so you don’t miss out on the action. The next day the Thunder had an official kick-off party at Solare Café that I was also able to attend.

However, earlier in the day on Saturday I was able to attend the 1st annual African American History celebration at Centennial High School which was presented by Destiny’s Place Ministries of Frisco.

After that we had numerous sports games to attend for our children, something we try never to miss.

Sunday was a great day to catch up on a lot of different things as it was one of those rare days that we didn’t have anything specific that needed to get done. I love days like this when so much gets accomplished.

Don’t forget the Town Hall meeting at City Hall on Monday night starting at 7pm.

As we have been doing in the past few blogs, here are some more Newsletter comments:

 Newsletter Night

Last night we stopped at Loft 610 in Plano for the Frisco Online monthly mixer. It was well attended and Loft 610 seems to be doing extremely well. This is a place that should have located in Frisco and I hope that you will get out and support the Late Night Hours ordinance that will be on the May 10 ballot. It will help ensure that we will not continue to lose places like this to other cities and therefore lose the economic benefit.

Today was another busy day but Erika and I managed to find time for a relaxing lunch at Isabella’s Restaurant (NW corner of Legacy and SH 121). This has always been one of our favorite places as the food and service is consistently good.

Earlier this evening we stopped in on an open house in Frisco Square at the Law Offices of Mackoy, Hernandez, & Qualls. We also met with Judge Charles Sandoval and his wife. Judge Sandoval is currently running for re-election.

We then walked across the parking lot to another building in Frisco Square where John Clements from Allstate was having his ribbon cutting and Frisco Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event. John is a great guy and we are so happy that he opened his office in Frisco Square. I had the pleasure of officially welcoming him at this event.

In any event, thank you to everybody for their support of our campaign for Mayor of Frisco. Erika and I are so grateful to the great citizens of Frisco for working so hard in helping to ensure a victory for Frisco this May.

It’s newsletter night so that’s it for now!

As we have been doing in the past few blogs, here are some more Newsletter comments:

"Mornings with Matt" Off to a Great Start!

“Mornings with Matt” officially kicked off today at It’s A Grind! I will be there each Wednesday morning from 7:30-8:30am and feel free to stop by any time and talk about any issues related to our great city or just to socialize. I’m always looking for more ways to communicate and reach out to citizens and if this continues to work well, I will continue to do it as long as citizens want to come out and talk. It’s A Grind is located at The Shops at Starwood (SW corner of Tollway and Lebanon).

Last night’s City Council meeting went about six hours long (ending a little before 11:30) as we had 9 different proclamations honoring many of our great citizens, young and old, and programs. We also had a lot of reports and presentations including a presentation from the North Texas Commission about transportation funding issues throughout North Texas. Also, we got our annual review from Community Waste Disposal who continues to do a great job for our city.

At the Council meeting we also discussed the creation of a multicultural committee, which I am a huge proponent of. We live is such a wonderfully diverse community and I have been meeting with folks for quite some time now on this issue and now it is time to step it up. Before the meeting ended, we went back into executive session to do the City Manager’s annual review. George Purefoy is an absolutely amazing City Manager and we are blessed to have him here in Frisco.

Of course it is tough to go right to sleep after these meetings so it was another late night and early morning.

Right after the “Mornings with Matt” event this morning, Rick and I headed to a couple of HRchitect prospect calls in Carrollton and Southlake. I love my job and business is doing great!

This evening, as with most evenings, Erika and I have several events to attend to, including a Frisco-Online mixer at Loft 610. We just love getting out and meeting with people and if we haven’t met you yet, we look forward to meeting you some day soon!

As we have been doing in the past few blogs, here are some more Newsletter comments:

“Thx again for the newsletter and your community involvement and leadership.” – Mike, November 2007

“Thanks for putting the newsletter together. It's always full of great information.” – Fred, November 2007

“Your email is so wonderful- I appreciate the work you put into it.” – Christy, November 2007

 "Mornings With Matt" Starts Tomorrow!

Don’t forget about “Mornings with Matt”, which begins tomorrow morning at It’s A Grind,

which is located at The Shops at Starwood (SW corner of Tollway and Lebanon). As I mentioned last week, I’m always looking for more ways to communicate and reach out to citizens and an idea that I have had for a long time is to pick a day each week where I hang out at a local coffee house and just have an open forum with anybody who wants to come by. This will happen each Wednesday morning from 7:30-8:30. The owner of It’s A Grind, Marchand Froschheuser, is a Frisco resident and dear friend and I hope you will support her business any chance you get and stop by on Wednesdays to talk about issues facing our great city.

Last night I stopped in at the Panther Creek “City Hall House Call” which was held at Sem Elementary school. The City has held these at neighborhoods throughout the city over the past year and it is something that I will continue to do as your next Mayor. About 50 engaged residents showed up last night to hear about what is going on around Frisco and to get questions answered. I plan on continuing these kinds of events when I become Mayor and will do everything in my power to help drive up attendance.

We got up early today and Tony the trainer stepped up our training program this morning. We will definitely be feeling it over the next few days!

At lunch time today, the monthly Frisco Chamber Ambassadors lunch took place at the new Chili’s restaurant at the SW corner of the Tollway and Eldorado. The Chili’s team is still in training and did an excellent job. The luncheon also doubled as a ribbon cutting and there were quite a few Ambassadors in attendance to welcome this new Chili’s.

Tonight we have a City Council meeting that looks to be long. I understand there will be about 9 proclamations and there are quite a few reports and presentations to go through before we get into agenda items.

Wednesday will be a busy day as Rick and I have several HRchitect appointments outside of the office and then Erika and I have three different events Wednesday night.
